Journey of Life - Thomas L Kline

The Journey of Life - Thomas L. Kline

Rev. Thomas Kline, in a clear and simple review of the Exodus story shows in compelling ways that there is a spiritual meaning to the events and details that pertains directly to aspects of our personal spiritual growth. Kline shows that each of us can see the person of Moses in ourselves, or rather, that the Lord provides us with these stories, and the characters who enact them to give us an insight or even a revelation into our own experience. The spiritual meaning of Egypt and the captivity of the children of Israel applies to each of us as we grow and mature until there is a recognition of our spiritual identity. Thereafter, the restlessness and the burden of service to what is represented by Pharaoh creates an impending motion to seek liberation, a liberation that was foreseen and provided for by the Lord. Everything does not go swimmingly for Moses, and neither does everything go swimmingly for us, but we can see in the challenges faced by Moses, and in the instruction and assistance that he receives, a paradigm of our own experience as we have lived it and as it can unfold for us, provided we look to be lead by the Lord. This story is the story of a migration from Egypt to Canaan, from subservience to liberty from spiritual numbness to spiritual vitality. It is the Journey of Life. The confrontation with Pharaoh, the plagues, the exodus itself, and the subsequent events of receiving the law and the construction of the temple are all shown to be milestones common to the path of regeneration. Kline also exhibits, through a series of insightful but clearly common-sense comparisons how the story of the Exodus has a special meaning and application to the relationship between a husband and wife. The message of the Lord to us, perhaps best illustrated in the parting of the Red Sea itself; and as shown by our author is that regardless of how bleak or even hopeless circumstances may become, we always have a path for "Going Forward".
